I too am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, which I denied for almost 40 years. This project is very close to my heart as I know that my healing began when I started to talk about the abuse. Over time, as my body and spirt allowed, I began letting go of the pain.
I also began to believe in myself, possibly for the first time in my life and began doing the things I had always wanted to do. At 46 I began art school, I graduated from The Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington DC with honors and The Faculty Award For Excellence. This is beyond my wildest dreams and never would have happened had I continued to deny the impact of sexual abuse in my childhood.
Today I live in Delaware and am working on a Masters in Arts and Teaching. I plan to stay involved with other survivors, you are my sisters and brothers. Sadly we share a bond forged in pain and I know that pain can only be relieved through sharing.
